Already have a resume you'd like to refine? Whether it’s a PDF, Word document, or a previously built resume on Careerflow.ai, importing your resume into the AI Resume Builder is quick and easy. This allows you to instantly begin optimizing your resume for specific roles using AI-driven tools.
Getting Started
Step 1: Head to the AI Resume Builder
Log in to your Careerflow.ai account. If you don't have one, you’ll need to sign up.
Navigate to the "Resume Builder" section in the left-hand menu.
Step 2: Create a New Resume
Click the “Create New Resume” button and choose the “Upload Resume” option.
Step 3: Select Base Resume
You’ll be prompted to choose a base resume type. Continue by selecting the appropriate option.
Step 4: Select an Existing Resume
In the pop-up, go to the “Imported Files” tab to see any documents you’ve already uploaded.
Step 5: Upload or Choose a File
If the resume you want to use has not been uploaded yet:
Either select a previously imported file from your list
Click “Upload Resume” to add a new PDF or DOCX file.
Step 6: Choose Document and Click “Next”
Once the file is selected, click the “Next” button to continue.
Step 7: Choose a Resume Template
While Careerflow.ai finishes reading your resume, you’ll be asked to select a template.
Browse the available templates using the template carousel.
Click a template to preview how your resume will look.
Once you’ve selected your preferred template, click Next Step.
You can change your resume template again later from the resume editor.
Step 8: Choose How You Want to Continue With Your Parsed Resume
When the process is complete, you’ll see the message “Your Resume Has Been Successfully Parsed.” Once your resume has been parsed, you can choose one of the following options:
Continue to Review: Review and refine the imported information step by step with the AI assistant.
We recommend selecting Continue to Review so you can check the parsed information for accuracy before editing your resume.
Skip to Editor: Bypass the guided review and go directly to the resume editor.
If you select Continue to Review, Careerflow.ai’s AI assistant will guide you through the imported sections of your resume. You can also click Skip to Editor at any time if you don’t want to complete the guided review.
Step 9: Enter Your Target Role
Start by entering the job role you’re targeting. For example:
Product Designer
Senior Software Engineer
Marketing Manager
Careerflow.ai uses this information to provide more relevant suggestions and help align your resume with your target role. After entering your target role, click Save & Continue.
Assistance panel on the left side of the page to request edits, add information, or improve your resume content. Type your instructions into the prompt box, such as:
“Make this more relevant to my target role.”
“Add my experience with project management.”
“Make this section more concise.”
“Improve these bullet points.”
Review all AI-generated suggestions carefully to ensure they are accurate and truthfully reflect your experience. The AI assistant can make mistakes, so edit or reject any information that does not apply to you. After entering your target role, click Save & Continue.
Step 10: Review Your Personal Information
Review the personal information extracted from your uploaded resume, including your:
First and last name
Email address
Phone number
Correct any missing or inaccurate details, then click Save & Continue.
Step 11: Review Your Professional Summary
Review the professional summary imported from your resume.
The AI assistant may suggest changes based on your target role. You can:
Review the suggested version
Edit the text directly
Use the AI assistant to request additional changes
Keep your existing summary if you prefer
Because AI-generated content can contain mistakes, make sure the summary accurately reflects your background and experience. Once you’re satisfied with the summary, click Save & Continue.
Step 12: Review Your Work Experience
Carefully review each imported work experience entry.
Make sure the following details are correct:
Company name
Job title
City and country
Start and end dates
Current employment status
Role description
Achievement or responsibility bullet points
You can expand or collapse each position, edit its information, add or remove bullet points, delete an entry, or click Add Experience to include another role. After reviewing your work history, click Save & Continue.
Step 13: Review Your Education
Review each education entry and confirm that the following information is accurate:
Institution
Degree
Field of study
City
Start and end dates
Current study status
Relevant bullet points or achievements
You can edit or delete an existing entry, add or remove bullet points, or click Add Education to include another qualification. When finished, click Save & Continue.
Step 14: Review Your Skills
Review the skills and categories extracted from your resume.
You can:
Rename a skills category
Add a new skill
Remove an incorrect or outdated skill
Delete a category
Click Add Category to organize additional skills, certifications, interests, or activities
Make sure the listed skills are relevant to your experience and target role.
Once everything looks correct, click Finish & Go to Preview.
Step 15: Preview Your Resume
The preview page displays the completed resume using your selected template.
Review the full document and check for:
Incorrect or missing information
Formatting issues
Typographical or grammatical errors
Incomplete sections
Content that does not accurately represent your experience
If you need to make additional changes, click Back. If everything looks correct, click Continue to Editor.
Step 16: Continue Editing and Optimizing Your Resume
You’ll be taken to the full resume editor, where you can continue updating your resume. From the editor, you can:
Edit your resume content
Add, remove, or rearrange sections
Change your template
Review your Resume Score
Check your Skill Match
Download your resume
Tailor your resume to a specific job description
