Welcome to Careerflow.ai’s AI Resume Builder, your all-in-one tool to create professional, polished, and ATS-friendly resumes effortlessly. Whether you’re starting from scratch, uploading an existing resume, or customizing it for a job, Careerflow helps streamline the process using advanced AI and smart optimization tools.

Before you begin, it’s important to understand two core types of resumes within Careerflow: Base Resume and Job-Tailored Resume. These two resume types serve different purposes—and knowing when to use each one is the key to making the most of your job applications.

Base Resume vs. Job-Tailored Resume

Base Resume

A Base Resume is your comprehensive, all-in-one resume. It includes your full work history, education, certifications, and skills—everything relevant to your career path.

  • Use it as your starting point.

  • Think of it as your master copy.

  • You can clone, edit, and tailor it later.

⚠️ When you create or edit a Base Resume, you will only see the Resume Analysis Score (ATS-friendly formatting and structure), not the Skill Match Score.

Job-Tailored Resume

A Job-Tailored Resume is a customized version of your Base Resume, aligned to a specific job description.

  • This is the resume you send to employers.

  • Tailored resumes boost your chances of passing through Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).

  • You will see both the Skill Match Score and Resume Analysis Score.

💡 For full ATS scoring and job match accuracy, always create a Job-Tailored Resume.

Getting Started: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Log In

Step 2: Go to Resume Builder

  • On the left-hand side panel, click Resume Builder to access your resume dashboard.

Step 3: Create Resume

  • Click on Create New Resume. You’ll now choose between:

    • Base Resume

    • Job-Tailored Resume

Step 4.1: If You Choose Base Resume

You’ll see 4 creation options:

  1. Upload Resume – Import a PDF or DOCX version of your existing resume.

  2. Import from LinkedIn – Pull your data from LinkedIn to auto-fill your resume.

  3. Start with AI Prompt – Input your background and let the AI generate a resume.

  4. Choose a Blank Template – Start from scratch and build your resume manually.

Once created, your Base Resume becomes your foundation for tailoring future applications.

  • Select a Job – Either:

    • Choose a saved job card from the Job Tracker, or

    • Import a job from a job board using the Chrome Extension.

  • Skill Match Tab – Check how your resume aligns with the job:

    • Skill Match Score shows how closely your skills match the job description.

    • Resume Analysis Score checks formatting and section completion.

  • Enhance resume – Adjust resume content and add missing keywords based on AI guidance.

You now have a fully optimized, job-specific resume.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What’s the difference between a Base Resume and a Job-Tailored Resume?
A: A Base Resume is your full career snapshot; a Job-Tailored Resume is customized for a specific job. Only Job-Tailored Resumes show full ATS Scores (Skill Match + Resume Analysis).

Q: Why don’t I see a Skill Match Score on my Base Resume?
A: The Skill Match Score compares your resume to a specific job description. Since Base Resumes aren't connected to any job, the system only shows the Resume Analysis Score.

Q: How do I improve my ATS Score?
A: Create a Job-Tailored Resume, review the Skill Match and Resume Analysis Scores, and apply the suggested keyword improvements.

Q: Can I clone my Base Resume to create a Job-Tailored one?
A: Yes! You can duplicate your Base Resume and convert it into a tailored version for a specific job. This helps you apply faster while keeping your original resume intact.

Q: How many resumes can I create?
A: Free users can create one resume. Premium users can create unlimited resumes, including tailored versions for multiple job roles.

Q: Can I use LinkedIn to build my resume?
A: Yes. You can import your LinkedIn profile to automatically generate your Base Resume.
