Follow the steps below to switch to a different microphone and continue your interview.
Step 1: Open the Mock Interview Feature
From your Careerflow Dashboard, click Mock Interview from the left navigation menu.
Step 2: Choose a Practice Scenario
Browse the available interview scenarios and select the one you'd like to practice.
Once you've selected a scenario, click Start Interview.
Step 3: Check for the Microphone Warning
If your microphone isn't detected, you'll see a warning similar to: "We're not detecting your voice. Check your microphone or try speaking louder. Your responses may not be recorded."
This indicates that the selected microphone is not picking up your voice or isn't accessible.
Step 4: Open the Microphone Dropdown
At the bottom of the interview screen, locate the Microphone selector. It displays the name of your currently selected microphone (for example, Microphone (NVIDIA...)).
Click the ▼ dropdown arrow next to the microphone name to view all available microphone devices.
Step 5: Select a Different Microphone
At the bottom of the interview screen, click the Microphone dropdown and select a different microphone from the list.
After selecting a new microphone:
Speak normally for a few seconds and wait for the system to detect your voice.
If the warning disappears, your microphone has been detected successfully, and you can proceed with your Mock Interview.
If the warning "We're not detecting your voice" still appears:
Try another microphone from the dropdown.
Make sure your microphone is properly connected and not muted.
Verify that your browser has permission to access your microphone.
Close applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Discord, or OBS that may be using your microphone.
Refresh the page and try again.
Heads up: If you connected a new microphone after opening the Mock Interview page, refresh your browser so the new device appears in the microphone list.
Step 6: Start Your Mock Interview
Once your microphone is detected, the warning should disappear, and you'll be able to begin your Mock Interview.
If your camera isn't available, you can still continue by selecting Start Interview without video, provided your microphone is working correctly.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Why am I seeing the message "We're not detecting your voice"?
A: This message appears when the Mock Interview cannot detect audio from your selected microphone. This can happen if the wrong microphone is selected, the microphone is muted, browser permissions are disabled, or another application is using your microphone.
Q: How do I change my microphone?
A: Click the Microphone dropdown at the bottom of the Mock Interview screen and select a different microphone from the list. After switching, speak normally for a few seconds to allow the system to detect your voice.
Q: My microphone isn't listed in the dropdown. What should I do?
A: Make sure your microphone is properly connected to your computer. If you connected it after opening the Mock Interview page, refresh your browser so the new device can be detected.
Q: The warning is still showing after I changed microphones. What should I do?
A: Try selecting another microphone from the dropdown, make sure your microphone is connected and not muted, verify that your browser has permission to access your microphone, close applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Discord, or OBS that may be using your microphone, and then refresh the page before trying again.
Q: Can I continue the interview without a camera?
A: Yes. If your camera isn't available, you can select Start Interview without video. However, your microphone must be detected so your interview responses can be recorded.
Q: My microphone works in Zoom or Microsoft Teams but not in the Mock Interview. Why?
A: This is usually caused by browser permissions or another application controlling your microphone. Ensure that your browser has microphone access enabled for Careerflow, then close any applications that may be using your microphone before refreshing the page.
Q: The Start Interview button is disabled. Why?
A: The Start Interview button may remain unavailable if the platform cannot detect your microphone or if microphone permissions have not been granted. Once a working microphone is selected and detected, you should be able to start your interview.
Q: Which browser should I use for the best experience?
A: We recommend using the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge for the best compatibility and performance with the Mock Interview feature.
Q: I still can't get my microphone to work. What information should I send to Support?
A: Please include a screenshot of the Mock Interview page showing the error, the browser you're using, the name of the microphone you're trying to use, whether the microphone works in other applications (such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams), and the troubleshooting steps you've already tried. This information will help our team investigate the issue more efficiently.
